“Mom, where are the scissors?” Kendra asked.
“They’re in the left drawer in the kitchen!” Rasheeda replied from the
bathroom.
“Mom, what are you doing?” Kendra said angrily
Kendra walked in the room and saw her mother snorting crack.
“What the hell is this? “ Kendra says.
“Don’t use that tone with me young lady!” Rasheeda screamed.
Kendra was very humble and calm before her mom got onto drugs since
they moved to Manhattan. The situation turned Kendra into a completely
different person. Every time she saw her mom snorting crack, she would
always leave .
“I’m going to the mall ma. Have fun fucking up your life!” Kendra said.
Rasheeda yells, “Kendra come here now!”
Door slams.
She was a 17- years’ old girl who felt like she was stuck in a horrible
nightmare of life. She didn’t know what to do or where to start. Her
life took a dramatic change and Kendra was new to the streets of Manhattan
and new to the game. She didn’t know the ins and outs, the good or the bad.
Kendra was like a lost soul searching for a match. She only had one person
who knew her story and could understand her. That person was her best-
friend and only friend , Tiffany. Tiffany was 18- years’ old, had her own car,
apartment, and money flow. She and Kendra been friends since the fourth
grade. So Kendra called her to pick her up to go to the mall.
“Hey girl!” Tiffany said.
“What’s up girl?” Kendra replied.
“Nothing really, making ends meet. What about you?” Tiffany says with a
sigh.
“Same old shit. My mom acting stupid and getting on my last nerve girl.”
Kendra grunts angrily.
Tiffany says,” Well, let’s go chill before she comes out here and starts
acting like a asshole.”
Kendra replies excitingly, “True.”
On the way to the mall, they met up with some of the Tiffany’s homeboys.
“What’s up y’all?” Tiffany says. “This is my home girl Kendra.”
Kendra says, “Hey everybody!”
Boys reply, “What’s up girl?”
Kendra seemed to have her eyes on one of boys. His name was Rashod. He
was everything else you could think of. He was like a male Oprah. He was
thuggish. His pants sagged, dreads nice, and clean, and he was very nice. He
had beautiful hazel eyes that couldn’t be ignored. Blinded by all of that,
Kendra didn’t realize the skims and games he could and would play on her.
To her, he was like a fairy-tale, but to him, she was a quick hit and nothing
serious.
“Aye , Kendra, come here,” Rashod demanded
Kendra walked up to him with excitement. Her head filled with thoughts. It
was like a glass overflowing with water.
“Why you look so nervous beautiful?” Rashod said with concern.
What she really wanted to say was that he was sexy and she wanted to kiss
him.
“No reason love.” Kendra said.
“You are really beautiful!” Rashod stated.
“Thank you and you’re not bad yourself.” Kendra said with shyness
So they started talking about random things and really enjoyed each other.
Tiffany interrupted, “What y’all two love birds over her talking about?”
“None of your business Ms. Nosy.” Kendra lamented.
“Oh, excuse me then,” Tiffany said with disappointment, “but Kendra we
still gotta go to the mall!”
“Yeah you right. Well I guess I’ll see you another time.” Kendra replied
with sadness.
Rashod grabs her, “Wait bae , why you look like that?”
“I kind of don’t want to go. You are so nice and I wanted to continue our
conversation.” Kendra said.
Rashod already knew his plan was working when he smoothly but roughly
grabbed her. He knew his was going to come out the like the true player he
always was.
“Well, let me tell you this.” Rashod says.
“And what is that?” Kendra said blushing.
“How about you give me your number and we can meet on our own terms?”
Rashod replied.
“That sounds good.” Kendra said.
While she was giving him her number, she kept thinking about how cute he
was. What she didn’t know was that she was headed for a even scarier
nightmare. After she gave him the number, they all got in their cars and
departed ways. Kendra didn’t know better and didn’t think.
“Kendra girl, why you smiling?” Tiffany said.
Kendra replied with excitement, “Girl, I think I’m in love.”
“No you ain’t honey,” Tiffany stated with anger, “you are nowhere near in
love.”
“Why you say that?” Kendra asked.
Tiffany looked at Kendra pugnaciously.
“You don’t even know what love is.” Tiffany added while ready to slap her
with some common sense.
“What is it then, since you Ms. know it all?” Kendra said with vengeance.
“It’s an undefined verb,” Tiffany said lowly, “It’s something you won’t
understand right now.”
Everything got quite and all you heard was the 2chainz mix tape playing. So
after that, they went to the mall and went shopping for the party that
Tiffany’s friend was having that night. They both were excited about the
party and ready to get there so they can party their life away.
“Tiffany?” Kendra said.
“Yes, Kendra?” Tiffany answered.
“Do you think that Rashod will be at the party?” Kendra asked.
“He might be, why?” Tiffany said while she’s trying on her dress.
“Just asking.” Kendra said with a grin.
After trying on dresses, they bought one and left. Later on that night they
went to the party and sure enough Rashod was there. While Kendra was
looking for him, he was looking for her. They both were sprung or at least
Kendra was. At the party there was liquor, drugs, and other things that
Kendra wasn’t comfortable with.
“Well Kendra, we here girl!” Tiffany shouted.
“I know, but I don’t feel comfortable around all of this shit.” Kendra said.
“Would you feel comfortable around me?” Rashod said while sneaking up
and surprising her.
“OMG babe, I’m glad you came.” Kendra told him while hugging him.
The whole time they were hugging, Kendra could think of nothing
else but how good he smelled, how strong he was, and how she wanted him
to pick her up and just make love to her.
“Do you feel better now that I’m here?” Rashod asked.
“Yeah, I guess.” Kendra said while trying not to blush.
Tiffany interrupted with and inclement attitude, “She is. Don’t lie girl.”
After she said that Tiffany left and went to find a friend. Kendra and Rashod
walked outside and finished talking.
“How did you know that I would be here?” Kendra asked
“This was the party that everyone was talking about and I knew Tiffany
would know about it and go. ” Rashod said with a shrug.
“Is it a problem?” Rashod added.
“No love, I was just asking.” Kendra said.
“Ok then. Well let’s not talk about that. Let’s talk about us.” Rashod
answered.
“What about us sweetie?” Kendra asked.
“When you are mine?” Rashod requested.
“When I get to know Rashod. The good and/or bad.” Kendra acknowledged
and with force.
“Well damn. I ain’t mean to get you mad lil ‘ma.” Rashod said.
“I’m sorry for the attitude, but it’s a protection thing.” Kendra replied.
“You good baby.” Rashod responded.
They both wanted the same thing at the same time. She wanted him and he
wanted her.
“Can I have a kiss bae?” Rashod asked.
“Su-.”
“Kendra it’s time to go.” Tiffany interrupted.
“Ok, I’m coming.” Kendra replied.
Kendra was upset but happy at the same time. Part of her wanted to just
pounce on Tiffany like a tiger and the other part wanted to just hug and kiss
on Rashod. Even though she was mad, she was happy to see him again.
“Well I guess I’ll see you on our terms.” Kendra said with a smile.
“Guess we will Ms. Lady.” Rashod said while grinning.
After that Kendra and Tiffany left the party and headed to Tiffany’s house.
The whole ride Kendra couldn’t help but think about Rashod and how nice
he was. He made her smile and blush 24/7. He was like a king on his throne
and she wanted to be queen bee.
“Girl your face is red. What’s going on with you?” Tiffany asked.
“He made my night.” Kendra said graciously.
“He always does something to you.” Tiffany said angrily.
Kendra always thought why Tiffany got so offended when she said
Rashod’s name, said something Rashod said, or something he had told her.
She felt like she was mad at her.
“Tiffany what is your problem, for real?” Kendra said curiously.
“What you fail to realize is that everybody ain’t what you think they are.
You can’t just tell who a person is by how they look or first impression.”
Tiffany said fiercely.
“Ok Tiffany why the fuck are you so sensitive about this?” Kendra replied.
“Because you are my best friend and I’m looking out for you and your
feelings. Boys these days don’t give a fuck about how you feel about them,
or how you want a serious relationship with them. They just want have sex
with you and leave. They don’t care about none of that shit.”
Kendra had nothing to say. She knew that Tiffany was right. She knew that
what Tiffany said was the truth and needed to be taken in consideration.
So when they got to Tiffany’s house, it was girl time. It was time to just
relax and chill. The whole time they were there, Tiffany had to talk to
Kendra about the Rashod scenario. She had to let her know how she felt
about her over thinking being with him.
“Kendra, where do you think you and Rashod are going to be?” Tiffany
asked.
Kendra answered, “I mean we just started talking so I don’t think that
anything would stir up just yet. We are just getting to know each other. I’m
not going to rush into anything just yet.”
“I hope not, because you don’t know him like I know Mr. Rashod the pretty
boy,” Tiffany stated, “You don’t-“
Kendra interrupted. “And what the hell you know about him honey?”
“Don’t get me wrong, he is a very nice guy and sweet, but most of the time
he has a skim up his arm.” Tiffany mentioned.
“Why do you think that?” Kendra asked.
Tiffany replied, “I been knowing him for almost 6 years and you haven’t. I
been around him to long not to know the little things he does when he sees
a beautiful girl.”
“What do you mean by that?” Kendra asked calmly.
“He always, always has a plan,” Tiffany said with anger, “He is acumen in
that area.”
Kendra knew what that meant. From listening to what Tiffany said she
knew that he was player, or at least in Tiffany’s eyes. It was too much for
Kendra to think about, so she left it alone.
The phone starts to ring.
Kendra answers, “Hello? Kendra speaking.”
“Hi Kendra. This is officer Brooks. I need you to come to the hospital fast.”
“Ok I’m on my way. Is everything ok?” Kendra asked.
Officer Brooks replies, “I’m afraid not.”
After Kendra got the call, she and Tiffany headed to the hospital. She
wondered what it could be. Then Kendra thought and she knew. Tiffany and
Kendra ran into the hospital lost and confused on what was going on.
“Hi. My name is Kendra Smith. I’m looking for Rasheeda Smith.” Kendra
told the clerk.
“Room 204.” The clerk replied.
“Thanks.” Kendra said.
Her and Tiffany ran to room 204 to as fast as they could. When they
walked in the room, all they could see was Kendra’s mom laying there
looking sick as a dog. Kendra didn’t know what to do but stare.
“Are you ok Ms. Smith?” Tiffany asked Ms. Smith.
“I‘m ok.Where’s Kendra?” Rasheeda replied.
“I’m right here mama.” Kendra said crying.
“Don’t cry.” Rasheeda said worried.
“Ma, what did you do?” Kendra asked her mother with vengeance.
“Nothing.” Rasheeda said.
“Doctor, what happened to my mother?” Kendra demanded.
“She passed out on the side of the road.” The doctor replied.
“How long is she going to be in here doctor?” Kendra asked.
“For about 2 more days.” The doctor replied.
Kendra didn’t know what to say or do. She wanted to just scream and yell
her anger out. She had so many questions she wanted to ask her mom but
she just left it alone. She couldn’t be there no longer to just see her mother
suffering. She told her mother she loved her and left.
Two days went by and Kendra was still worried about her mother. She
asked herself so many questions.
“Could my mother die, could she be sick for a long time? Oh my god, what
am I going to do?” Kendra asked herself.
“Kendra!” Tiffany screamed.
“What Tiffany?” Kendra said madly.
“Just calm down.” Tiffany said.
Kendra thought how could she calm down when the most insecure but
most precious and important person in her life is about to die.
“Kendra just calm down. Your mother is going to just fine. Stop worrying.”
Tiffany told Kendra.
“She is damn near dead and your ass telling me to calm down. What the hell
is wrong with you?” Kendra yelled fiercely.
“Look I’m not the one with the crack head mother here.” Tiffany
mentioned.
“Look here bitch. I know my mom is not perfect but that’s still my mother
and you are not going to talk about her like that.” Kendra said
“I’m sorry Kendra. You know I didn’t mean that.” Tiffany replied.
All of sudden, all of the nurse were running to the room her mother was in.
Kendra saw that and went to go see what was going on with her mother.
When she tried to go in the room, the nurses pushed her out the room and
told her to wait and let me check on her mother. Kendra waited for about 45
minutes for them to tell her what the problem was.
“Kendra Smith?” The nurse called out.
“Yes, that’s me. Is everything alright?” Kendra asked.
“I’m afraid your mother-.” The doctor said.
“Dead?” Kendra mentioned.
“Yes. I’m sorry sweetie. I’m so sorry.” The nurse replied.
Kendra cried and cried and didn’t know what else to do. Tiffany hugged
Kendra and told her she was there.
“Get me out of here Tiffany. Please.” Kendra asked.
So after all that happened at the hospital, Kendra sat and thought about
everything that had just happen and what was she going to do about her
mom dying and them just moving to Manhattan. She was thinking about
where she was going to stay, how she was going to get money, and other
things related to that.
“Look Kendra,” Tiffany said, “You could stay with me if you want.”
“Thanks Tiffany. I would appreciate that.” Kendra said crying.
So Kendra moved in with Tiffany after a couple of months went by.
Her and Tiffany got closer to each other since they lived together.
“Have you talked to Rashod?” Tiffany asked.
“No, I haven’t in two weeks. I need to call him.” Kendra replied.
“Well, call him.” Tiffany added.
Kendra called Rashod and told him what had happened for the past month.
“Hello?” Kendra said.
“What’s on baby?” Rashod answered.
“Nothing trying to get my mind right. What you doing?” Kendra asked.
“Well how about I come over there and help you?” Rashod requested.
“Sure. You can do that.” Kendra replied.
“I’ll be there in 15 minutes.” Rashod said.
“Ok. I’ll be waiting.” Kendra said with a sad voice.
Those fifteen minutes past by and Rashod pulled up.
“Hello beautiful. Hi are you?” Rashod said with a excitement.
While hugging her she could smell that cologne that she liked on him.
But she could also smell the alcohol on him which she didn’t like.
She could tell that Rashod was kind of drunk but she really didn’t pay
much attention to it. While they were sitting outside, Tiffany barged out of
the house about to leave.
“Where you going Ms. Thing?” Rashod asked Tiffany.
“And hello to you Mr. Nosy!” Tiffany said.
“Look Kendra, I’m about to go out with some friends. Just make sure you
lock the door girl.” Tiffany added.
Kendra said., “ I know that.”
“Ok girl. Love you.” Tiffany told Kendra.
“Bye Rashod!” Tiffany said while hopping in the car.
After Tiffany left, Kendra and Rashod went in the house. They were both
tempted but waiting. At least Kendra was waiting. Rashod had been
drinking for 2 hours straight and was ready to do any and everything with
no hesitation. It had been an hour and Kendra started to see another side of
Rashod she wasn’t expecting to see right now.
“Kendra, you look gorgeous.” Rashod said.
“Thank you babe.” Kendra answered.
“Come here and let me-.” Rashod started to say.
Kendra interrupted, “Wait. What are you doing?”
“I’m trying to make love to you girl. Stop playing with me.” Rashod said
drunk and ready.
Rashod kept trying to push up on Kendra. He would feel her up and try to
take off her clothes. He knew what he wanted and he knew how he was
going to get it that night.
“Come on Kendra. Let me get it.” Rashod stated.
“I said no Rashod and I meant it. I don’t like the fact that you’re acting like
this.” Kendra demanded.
Kendra didn’t know what he was going to do. Kendra tried to get up and
leave but Rashod would not let her go.
“You not leave me sitting here and not give me any. Who you think you
is?” Rashod said with curiousness.
Rashod grabbed her pushed her into the room. He closed the door and
locked it.
“Rashod what the fuck are you doing?” Kendra asked.
“I’m going to get what I want I want.” Rashod replied.
Rashod was drunk and didn’t know what he was doing but Tiffany told
Kendra to watch out for what he could and would do. That night, Rashod
got what he wanted by force and didn’t care how it made her feel.
After he finished, he left without even saying goodbye. Kendra cried and
cried. Kendra was at her breaking point. Kendra called Tiffany and told her
what happened. When she got in touched with her, Tiffany was drunk and
Kendra could barely hear anything Tiffany was saying. After a while,
Kendra finally got Tiffany to listen to here.
“Tiffany, where are you?” Kendra asked.
“What’s up Mrs. Rashod?” Tiffany responded.
“I need you to come home now Tiffany.” Kendra commanded.
“Why?” Tiffany asked.
“Just come home!” Kendra said.
Tiffany got in her car drunk and not knowing what she was leaving for.
Tiffany was driving at the speed of 85 mph and didn’t know how to stop.
That night topped the other nights that Kendra was having. That night was
The most hurtful night of all for Kendra. That night Kendra had found out
that her best friend got killed in an car accident.
Kendra was feeling like all the people in her life that really she needed and
wanted were leaving her.
Weeks had passed and Kendra was trying to find places to stay and
people to stay with. Over time, Kendra was getting bigger and bigger.
Kendra kept thinking she was pregnant but really didn’t pay any attention to
it. If Kendra were to get pregnant, she wouldn’t know what to do. So
Kendra went to the corner store. She picked up three pregnancy test and
made sure they would be accurate. Kendra got the test and went home and
took all three. The first one said she was pregnant. The second said she was
not. Kendra was completely confused. She didn’t know which test to
believe so she took the third one. After taking the third pregnancy test,
Kendra was devastated. The test said that she was pregnant. Since Kendra
was pregnant, she called her aunt to see if she would let her stay with her.
Her aunt at first didn’t want to take her in but she was the only person
Kendra had.
So Kendra moved in with aunt 2 weeks before school started.
Kendra and her aunt were talking about school since it was close by.
“Kendra what do you plan on doing about school?” Wanda said.
“I mean I didn’t plan on going to school since I’m pregnant. I don’t want
everybody looking at me weird and saying this and that about me. Hell no.”
Kendra said.
“You know if your mother was here she would not like that.” Wanda
replied.
“Don’t start with that shit.” Kendra said.
“You know its true Kendra,” Wanda said sadly, “but I’m not going to make
you do anything that you don’t want to do.”
“Thank you auntie for understanding.” Kendra replied calmly.
So instead of going to high school, Kendra decided to get her GED and
not look back. She now has a child to look forward to and nothing else
could get in her way.
It had been 6 months and Kendra was showing more than she knew.
She was so ready to drop that baby. While waiting for that time to come,
Kendra had to go job hunting. She knew that having a baby came with
expenses and much more. Those two moths had passed by and Kendra had
her baby and had her job and couldn’t be more happy. Even though she
didn’t have the people she wanted in her life, she knew that her baby had
bits and pieces of them and that was her joy.
“They’re in the left drawer in the kitchen!” Rasheeda replied from the
bathroom.
“Mom, what are you doing?” Kendra said angrily
Kendra walked in the room and saw her mother snorting crack.
“What the hell is this? “ Kendra says.

knew that he was player, or at least in Tiffany’s eyes.
